This August, Cirque du Soleil returns to Chicagoland with Kurios, one of their latest shows. I’ve followed this Canadian troupe since I was in grade school. I had taken a ballet class with one of the younger trainees (unknowingly at the time) and followed every Bravo TV special that ever came out. While I didn’t see a live show until my 21st birthday, this was a company that earned my loyalty intensely.
A little Steampunk and a lot of awesome, I can’t wait to see this show. I’m always impressed with the intensive dedication to detail the cast and crew put into their performances. Not a single move, or harness placement, is without thought. I remember how hard my heart seemed to beat against my chest when I realized there was a lack of safety net. It keeps things suspenseful, but tells you how long the training goes to have that sort of confidence
If you’ve never studied their audition process, I’d recommend you watch this audition documentary by 16×9 that came out a few years ago. Absolutely fascinating.
