DISCLAIMER:I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster.com. All opinions are my own and I will be as honest as possible with my thoughts.
So it’s time for an initial review of my first ever Influenster VoxBox. I was quite curious to see what I’d have to review. I knew it would be fashion oriented based on the survey I had to complete, but wasn’t sure if the products would be something I’d actually buy. I’m happy to say it was a mix of both.
Tastekake Kandy Bar Kakes: Peanut Butter
First things first, the name. I won’t lie–I was initially turned off at the swap of “K” for “C’ (never find that marketing strategy cute). However, food’s meant to eat. And I wasn’t asked for a marketing review. This is basically a snack cake version of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The cake was spongy without being too moist and the Reese’s peanut butter was a little more natural than my personal preference. However, it works as a post-meal pick me up. And at 33 grams of carbohydrates, it won’t affect my fellow diabetics out there in a bad way. Grade: C+
NYC Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm
By far, one of my favorite samples to try from this VoxBox. A good lip balm is really hard to find. And more often than not, you either love it or you hate it. I purposely held off on this review because I knew I’d need a few days to test it out. I love the berry scent and the little apple emblem in the center of the stick. It glides on smoothly and last a good hour or two before a new application is necessary. I left it on overnight to see if it would have that sticky grossness some can have by morning. Luckily, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Grade: B+
Secret Outlast Completely Clean Clear Gel
I stopped wearing clear deodorant years ago. I was an athlete and nothing ever held up like I needed it too. Not to mention the white residue that made me cringe. Regardless, I went ahead and tried this out for a couple of days. The scent is quite nice. It has more of a spicy scent and not floral, so if the boyfriend were to grab it by mistake–he won’t be irked. lol. Like most gel deodorants, the trick is really to use the right amount of product. The turning mechanism was easy to control and I found the clean scent last for the majority of the day. Did this convince me to switch back? No, I still prefer solids. But I wouldn’t mind using it now and then. Grade: B
Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Gelastic
There’s not a lot I can say about this product just yet. First of all, it’s not a product I’d ever use on a regular basis. I’m a simple kind of chick. Either my hair is stick straight or I toss it back into a ponytail. It’s cool that it’s a flexible gel for holding styles. The fact is that if I wanted to play with the layers in my hair more, this would be great. That’s just a level above my expertise. Lastly, I haven’t yet tested it in my hair. I’m about to go to the salon and can’t wash my hair this soon before a relaxer (a conversation for a different day). I adore the smell and you get a lot of product for a cost of just under $20. Grade: N/A
Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure
Ladies and gentlemen, we have my favorite product out of this entire review. Which is absolutely hilarious, because I’ve never liked press-on nails. I’m sure I’ve seen these in the store and kept walking by. I have a simple system when it comes to my nails. Normally I leave them plain with just a topcoat of clear polish for protection. Sometimes I’ll toss on a color polish, knowing it will crack off during the day and anger me. Then a few times a year, I’ll go to the nail salon for an acrylic french manicure. But those can damage your nails over time and that isn’t fun in my book. Not only did these apply easily and stay on strong, you get enough for 2 sets for under $10. Win. Grade: A
So that’s my initial review. For some of the products that take more time to truly see results and/or I haven’t yet tried–I’ll do a follow-up review. If you have any other thoughts or questions, please let me know.
